The Story of Iberica Overland

It has always been extremely important to me to see and understand my interests not as separate things, but rather as parts of a larger whole, overflowing any limits, meshing together and creating new innovative ideas and practices. To me, this is the essential ingredient for a happy, fulfilled, well-lived life: the ability to pursue your passions in a harmonious way. And so, let me tell you the story of Iberica Overland.

Good, reliable, resilient cars have been a part of my profession since the very beginning: if you want to reach the remotest corners of the planet, other means of transport (or your own two feet) can only take you so far. Over the years, through a lot of trial and error, I learned three things:

  1. Being as independent and self-sufficient as possible is crucial in order to achieve quality results in my work;

  2. In terms of self-sufficiency, nothing beats a well-equipped car with at least a makeshift kitchen and some sort of solution for sleeping/camping;

  3. If you truly aim for self sufficiency while driving somewhere remote, you should know how to fix basic problems on your vehicle.

I have never understood off-road or overland or cars in general as an important interest that I should make time to pursue, but rather as a side effect of my lifestyle. Over the years, I was accumulating knowledge (some necessary and some not so much) about driving off-road, optimizing your living space in a 4x4, car brands, possible modifications, interesting routes and scenic roads… the list is never-ending.

A good, reliable 4x4 car will get you anywhere you need to go.

Then, the pandemic hit, I suddenly found myself unable to leave my town, much less to travel to faraway places. And so, more time went into researching the right kind of car for a trip from my wildest dreams, one day when this nightmare finally and completely ends.

And so, Iberica Overland was born.

There was quite a lot of video content about overlanding available in Spanish already. However, a very small percentage of creators had bothered to create quality videos, which would tell a well-rounded story about a certain journey with words, sounds and images. Even though our conditions at the time - not being allowed to leave the house - didn’t really allow for full-scale travel storytelling, we started a YouTube channel anyway. And it sure gave us something to do: we had something to shoot, as well as endless resources and opportunities to discover and explore.

The channel turned 1 a few days ago, and in this one year we have reached milestones we didn’t ever dream of. Today, Iberica Overland is a part of my life and work of equal importance as my time-lapse films and practice. And the best part? My two passions coexist in complete harmony, one building off of the other, making the creative process so much more exciting, and the final results notably better.

There are many plans, projects and adventures in front of us which I can’t wait to share with you, both as a videographer and as an overlander.
