Canon 1Dx. Too many questions

Posted

The launch of Canon’s new 1DX raises a bunch of questions about the video function. We all expected great improvements in this aspect, in this model and in the future of Canon 5D Mark III. But maybe the Nippon brand will not fulfill our expectations with their first release.
There is no indication that the Canon 5D Mark III will have more features or be more advanced than this 1DX that just came out, and many details about its capability in video mode are still not clear.
It’s possible to choose between two types of compression, a more adequate one for editing (intraframe, ALL-i) and another where the primary feature is duration (interframe, IPB).

We do not know what will be the sampling of the signal. Will it be the typical 4:2:0 or we will finally get the 4:2:2?
Nor do we know the bit rate. Will it continue around the 38Mb/so or will it be enhanced by this new ALL-I codec?
Will we finally have clean HDMI output?
Will it have audio monitoring?
Will we be able to use the magnification while recording?
Will the screen turn of when an external recorder or a viewfinder is connected to the HDMI?
Looks like we’ll have to wait until March to know the answers to these questions. What we do know is the price – $ 6,800 or € 6,700. Meanwhile, I’d like to know where are the people exchanging the currencies.
